PERMANENT DIACONATE

David Huntley was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate on Friday16 April 2004 at Corpus Christi Cathedral St Ives.

Please pray for him

David Huntley
The eldest of the five children of Bill and Nora Huntley, David was born at Belmore, NSW.  He was baptised at St Joseph’s Church.

His primary education was by the Sisters of St Joseph at ‘St Therese School, Lakemba’ and later at ‘St Mel’s School’, Campsie.

His secondary education was by the de la Salle Brothers at ‘St John’s (now Holy Spirit) College’, Lakemba.

David worked as an electrician; beginning as an ‘apprentice’ and retiring as the ‘Chief Inspector – Electrical, Safety and Standards’ with the Rail Infrastructure Corporation.

David and Judy, his wife of almost thirty nine years, were married at St Mel’s Church Campsie, (Fr Harry Kennedy), each having been long term members of the Catholic Youth Organisation Youth (CYO).

They moved to their home in Berowra two years later and have four children – Karen (Berowra), Robert ( Lake Macquarie), Joanne (Dubbo), and Christopher (Berowra).  They have eleven grandchildren.

David and Judy have been very active in the Parish of Berowra, from the erection of the present Church and original school, in the early 1970s.  Their involvements include: P&F, SVdeP, RCIA, CCD, Minister of Eucharist, Reader, Acolyte, Altar Society, and other miscellaneous activities.

David commenced his tertiary studies at the Catholic Institute of Sydney in 1997, and graduated with the degree of ‘Bachelor of Theology’ in May 2003.

Several years of formation led to David being ‘Called to Candidacy’ in April 2002.  He was ordained a Permanent Deacon by Bishop David Walker, on Friday 16th April, at Corpus Christi Cathedral, St Ives.

A special commendation must be given to Judy; because of the extra load she carried while David was working for his degree; and as well, for her extensive support and participation during the years of formation.  Without her willingness and permission, the Permanent Deaconate for David would not have been possible.
